I suppose the best way to describe this site is as a self promotion for a person called Ben Cawkwell. It presents his resume, some projects which he has carried out, and also a copy of his dissertation about surveillance. Why is it called Dread@thewonderyears.org? Well Dread is the digital representation of Ben. A name that could be given to all digital things relating to him, but are not him, because Ben is a real living person, not a thing made from 1 and 0. thewonderyears.org is a domain managed and cared for by a collaboration of Interaction designers, who required a place to express themselves on the thing we call the World Wide Web. I am not completely sure of the reasons for it being called thewonderyears, it was probably a good idea at the time.
Well I suppose your asking what sort of person Ben is? Hes about so high, with long dreadlocks, and often wears very baggy jeans and plain t-shirts. When it comes to computers he is fairly competent at using windows and mac machines, but his latest obsession is mastering the world of Linux. He is still only a beginner in this field, but seems to be enjoying it very much. He does not consider himself a programmer, however he does a bit of java-script, PHP (slightly), XML CSS and stuff, and knows quiet a bit of action-script. He is also known to fiddle a bit with lingo as well.
When he is not fiddling with bits and bytes, he is spending time with his girlfriend Sara, drinking and smoking, building things, reading, thinking, sleeping, cooking, talking, drawing, walking, swimming and generally living a human being kind of life.
Anyway, its been an hour since I was writing this.
Its now been about five hours since I was writing this, so I leave it here, and hope you enjoy seeing some things that Ben Cawkwell has to offer, he is not that bad you know.
