PERSONAL STATEMENT

My main interest is applying computer technology with a firm understanding of its social implications. This has led to projects such as my Soup Project, a way to address problems faced by design students in recording and organising their design process, and Filmlog, a way to approach interactive film where the boundaries of viewing and creating are merged.

During my three years in Ravensbourne College I have gained presentation and communication skills, and an understanding of usability and user experience.

I have also done a number of other projects which gave me experience in designing system architecture, graphic communication, product design and digital video.

An Urban Environments workshop in Denmark gave me insight into how design influences society, and how design can meet the particular needs of a community, while a lighting product project I was involved with was taken forward as an entry to The Lighting Association Student Lighting Design Competition.

I am currently specialising in GNU/Linux, network and server instillation, PHP, MYSQL, and RSS. I already have a foundation of knowledge on Actionscript (Flash), Lingo (Director), XML, HTML, javascript and OpenAuthor (interactive TV).

Alongside my involvement with computers, I have a very keen interest in film and Photography. Directors who inspire me are David Lynch, Andrei Tarkovsky and Fritz Lang, while my study on a GNVQ art and design course gave me an opportunity to develop my Photography skills using traditional darkroom techniques.
